God is Spirit. Man is a Very Limited Being
The term 'subset' is defined in mathematics as a set of elements which are contained in another set.
Here we will use 'subset' with it's everyday meaning where the subset is a smaller set which is a part of a larger one.
For example the set of numeric characters on this computer keyboard is a subset of the complete set of characters which contains numbers, upper and lower case alphabetic characters, function keys, etc.
Man can only see a subset of the total wavelengths of light, or colours. He cannot see ultra-violet or infra-red.
Man can only hear a subset of sounds. Dolphins, bats, even dogs, can hear things our ears cannot detect.
Even with scientific instruments man can only detect a subset of what exists. Space and time restrict us to a subset of the whole.
Man's memory is limited. Man's reasoning ability and his ability to mentally calculate are limited. Man's patience and kindness are limited.
Spirit
Space and time are linked to matter, and we cannot measure into the realm outside of space and time.
The world outside of our physical dimensions of space, time, and mass is called spirit.

It is the basis of our universe. It fills the universe with its presence. The relatively enormous spaces between electrons and protons are completely filled by spirit.
It was spirit that refashioned the surface of the earth at the beginning of this creation.
The Bible
Man when he was created did not have the humility to see and admit that he was severely limited. He did not submit to guidance.
The one authority on things of spirit is the Bible, written by God through the hands of men. Men rejected even the words God personally inscribed on the tables of stone.
The only map through the countless distractions, the myriads of different views and ideas about life and success and the meaning of life, the calamities, the times of grief, the endless diseases and afflictions of this world, is the Bible.
Therefore in our research into this subject we will follow the words of the Bible. There are many traps awaiting the ill-informed.
NOTE: Thoughts on String Theory (22 August 2006)
The String Theory now postulates that our universe is but one 'membrane', and there are others. The one force or energy which links them is the force of gravity.
Gravity is surprisingly weak when compared to other forces, and this could be because it is shared between the membranes, or different universes (so the theory goes).
Therefore, indirectly and very roughly, we would, if the theory is correct, be measuring outside of our universe of space, time, and mass. We calculate what our gravity ought to be, and the difference is a measurement (or estimate) of what belongs to the other membranes (or universes).
Hence, the above statement "we cannot measure into the realm outside of space and time" may be incorrect, because the other membranes may be constructed differently.
Nevertheless there is a point beyond which we cannot know in this life. Men will never measure God.

The statement "we cannot measure into the realm outside of space and time" would have to be reworded, "we cannot measure into the realm outside of creation".
